Privacy and Cookie Policy
Cookie Policy – EU Regulation 679/2016 (GDPR)
Definitions, characteristics, and applications
Cookies are small text files that websites visited by the user send to the user’s computer or mobile device, where they are stored and then transmitted back to the same websites upon subsequent visits.
The use of cookies allows a website to remember the user’s preferences (e.g. selected language, font size, etc.), so that they do not need to be re-entered each time the user returns to the website or navigates from one page to another.
Cookies are therefore used to perform IT authentication, monitor sessions, and store information about the activities of users accessing a website. They may also contain a unique identification code that makes it possible to track the user’s navigation within the website for statistical or advertising purposes.
While browsing a website, the user may also receive cookies from websites or web servers other than the one currently being visited (so-called third-party cookies).
Certain operations could not be carried out without the use of cookies; in some cases, cookies are therefore technically necessary for the proper functioning of the website itself.
There are various types of cookies, which differ in their characteristics and functions and may remain stored on the user’s device for different periods of time:
Session cookies, which are automatically deleted when the browser is closed
Persistent cookies, which remain on the user’s device until a predefined expiration date
Under current Italian law, the use of cookies does not always require the explicit consent of the user.
In particular, such consent is not required for so-called “technical cookies”, i.e. cookies that are used solely to carry out the transmission of a communication over an electronic communications network or to provide a service explicitly requested by the user.
These are cookies that are essential for the operation of the website or necessary to perform activities requested by the user.
According to the Italian Data Protection Authority (see decision of 8 May 2014 and subsequent clarifications), technical cookies for which no explicit consent is required include:
Analytics cookies, provided they are used directly by the website operator to collect aggregated information on the number of users and how they visit the site
Navigation or session cookies (e.g. for authentication purposes)
Functionality cookies, which allow the user to navigate according to selected criteria (e.g. language) in order to improve the service provided
By contrast, profiling cookies, i.e. cookies used to create user profiles and to send advertising messages in line with preferences expressed while browsing, require the user’s prior consent.
Types of cookies used by the website and options to enable/disable them
The website uses the following types of cookies, which may be disabled—except for third-party cookies, for which reference is made directly to the respective selection and deactivation procedures provided by the relevant third parties:
Technical navigation or session cookies, necessary for the functioning of the website or for accessing requested content and services
Functionality cookies, which enable specific website functions (e.g. language settings) in order to improve the service provided
WARNING:
Disabling technical and/or functionality cookies may result in the website not being fully usable or in certain services or features not functioning correctly. In such cases, it may be necessary to manually re-enter information or settings each time the website is visited.
Third-party cookies
These are cookies from websites or web servers that do not belong to the Data Controller and are used by third parties for their own purposes.
These third parties—listed with links to their respective privacy policies—are generally independent data controllers with regard to the processing of data collected through their cookies. Reference should therefore be made to their individual privacy policies, information notices, and consent mechanisms.
The Data Controller makes every reasonable effort to monitor the cookies used on the website. These are regularly updated in the website’s privacy policy in order to ensure transparency regarding the cookies used directly and their purposes.
For third-party cookies, the Data Controller provides links to the relevant privacy policies. Responsibility for informing users and obtaining consent lies with these third parties.
Cookie settings
Users may block technical and functionality cookies, in whole or in part, through their browser settings.
Please note that disabling technical cookies may result in the website being unusable or in content and services not being displayed correctly.
Disabling functionality cookies may cause certain features to be unavailable or not to function properly.
The chosen cookie settings are stored in a specific cookie. If this cookie does not function correctly, it is recommended to delete unwanted cookies and disable their use through the browser settings.
When using different devices or browsers, cookie settings must be configured again.
Viewing and managing cookies via the browser
Cookies can be authorized, blocked, or deleted through the relevant browser settings. For further information, please refer to the instructions of the respective browsers:
